Inter County Match Report

Trentham 10km, Staffordshire

Having an Inter County match on the first weekend in August was always likely to be problematic, and this was highlighted by the number of athletes unavailable through holidays. However, the situation was worsened as 4 of the selected ladies and 2 of the selected men withdrew with injury and illness in the week leading up to the event. On a positive note, though, it did give the opportunity to bring in 3 men and 1 woman for their debuts in the green and orange vests. Make no mistake though, this was no easy course with a steady climb to the 3km mark, but a slow decline for the second half. Our first debutant, Cai Llewelyn (Hebog), who tells me he prefers hilly courses, finished seventh overall in 34:33. David Brilley (Buckley), who made his debut two weeks previously ay the Huxley 5 miles, was 14^th in 35:56, with Clubmate and our second debutant Ben Williams, 15^th in 35:59. Our third debutant was Ben Rowlands (Deestriders), who finished 20^th in 37:02. So, all 4 of our men placed in the first 20 in a field of 295. Our two ladies were led home by our fourth debutant, Llio Jones (Cybi), who was pleased to finish 5^th female, set a new p.b. of 39:37 and take first F35 as well. Margot Saher (Eryri) finished as 2^nd F50 in 43:39.
