After a huge overnight downfall of rain, and early morning mist, the day eventually cleared to temperatures in the mid-teens and a clear morning. The race itself had an entry list of over 600 for the first time, with 504 eventually finishing the course.

Tomos Roberts (Meirionnydd) is having an exceptional year. Coinciding with a move into the M35-39 category and having worn the Welsh vest in the Masters’ international at the Great Manchester half marathon – where he finished in fourth place – he had won several races coming into this event, ctd.

including the Barmouth and Abersoch 10km’s, as well as taking the Regional 5km title in Llanrug in June. On the back of training for a marathon planned for later in the year, he went into an early lead ahead of Welsh international Josh Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) and stretched away to win both the open race and the championship in 69:15. Chris Pownell (Cybi) was 3rd overall taking gold senior man in 76:21 and Martin Green (Meirionnydd) was 4th overall and took gold M50 in 77:0 0.

Emma Alofs (Cybi) is another having a fine year. Having set a new 10km p.b. of 39:23 back in January at the Twin Piers race in Colwyn Bay, she had been selected to make her Regional debut at the Farndon 10km and was disappointed when the latter event was cancelled. However, she did make her Regional debut in the Inter County match in Caernarfon in August, finishing in 40:46. She had also won silver senior woman in the 5km championships in Llanrug in June. Here, she placed 3rd overall in 88:59, a new p.b. taking the Regional women’s title and gold senior woman. Gog Triathlon’s Ann D’Albuquerque Set a new NWRAC best for F75-79 finishing in 2:17:51, over a minute better than the previous best of 2:29:16, set by Eryri’s Margaret Oliver at the Anglesey race in 2023.
