REGIONAL 5 MILES CHAMPIONSHIPS, HOLYHEAD 27.7.2025

For the fourth year in succession, the Regional 5 miles championships were held within the Breakwater race at Holyhead, Anglesey. The popularity of the event is growing year-on-year, this time with a record 200 entries and the event having sold out weeks in advance.

Josh Griffiths (Swansea/Deeside), who has now qualified for North Wales having fulfilled the nine months residency rule, won the Regional championship in a fine 24:19, in what-if the Power of Ten is correct- was his debut at the distance. In doing so, he broke the nine-years-old Championship Best Performance (C.B.P.) of 24:41, set by Rob Samuel at Abergele. Another long-standing CBP was also broken, in the M55 category, where Buckley’s Simon Roberts’ 29:18, broke Les Coathup’s 2008 record of 29:29. While in the women’s race, host Club Cybi Striders’ Emma Alofs, the current Regional half marathon champion, was a comfortable winner in 31:14, a new personal best for the distance, and a three minute margin over the next female finisher, Carla Green (NWRRC) who took first F50 in 34:33.
