Geoff Ward Inducted Into Hall of Fame

‘After more than 50 years in our sport, as a competitor and coach, Geoff Ward has recently retired from athletics and was inducted into our Hall of Fame last Friday evening.  He is pictured on the left receiving his award from Paul Brooks.  Geoff was also handed his WA Meritorious award, belatedly, by Paul.

Geoff first represented Wales in 1976 in the high jump, although his main event became the decathlon in which he competed over 50 times winning 5 Welsh titles and ranking in the UK top 10 on several occasions.  In 1983 he moved to Wrexham to work for the LA as a Sports and Leisure Officer.  He started coaching in 1987 focusing on decathlon.  By 2001 he was coaching 5 Wrexham athletes who were all GB internationals.  After a few years in Malta, Geoff returned to North Wales and worked in a development role at the indoor facility at Deeside.  He continued to coach several athletes who have represented Wales.’
