Mountain Championships – Cilcain 2025

The Welsh (Short) Inter-Regional and North Wales Regional Mountain Running Championships at Cilcain 2025

It was a scorcher at Cilcain yesterday afternoon for the Welsh (Short) Inter-Regional and North Wales Regional Mountain Running Championships.

With race temperatures near 25 degrees centigrade in the dry and sunny weather conditions, it did not detract from some very competitive racing on the 7.4km/380m race route up to the summit of Moel Fammau and back with North Wales athletes triumphant in securing the men’s and women’s Welsh Inter-Regional team Gold medals though, North Wales men faced stiff competition from the South Wales athletes. Josh Griffiths led the way securing triple gold in a time of 31.48 ahead of Rhys Goodrick (South Wales) with Rhys Jones 4th overall and Sam Gunning 5th to secure the team title. Eden O’Dea continued with her recent good form after earning GB selection for the World Uphill Only Mountain Running Championships at Canfranc, Spain next month in defending her Cilcain title in a quicker time than last year of 36.37 with Joanne Henderson 2nd and Catrin Donnelly 4th, North Wales made it a double success with the women’s team title ahead of East Wales.

A very well organised event in testing, hot conditions.
