Dave Brannan was recently inducted into our Hall of Fame after 33 years of service to the sport, until around 2005. He is pictured above receiving the award from his daughter, Lesley Brown. He started coaching as a high school teacher at Buckley Elfed High School c.1972 where he had early successes with multi-event athletes, sprinters and hurdlers and helped create a couple of Welsh internationals.
He was Clwyd Schools Cross country secretary (c. 1987/88), and also supported events as a starter over these years for both cross country and track and field. He held significant roles with Welsh Schools as Clwyd schools team manager and Welsh schools team manager – between 88-92 and represented Clwyd on the Welsh Schools Committee during those years. During his time with Wrexham AC, he was an active Committee member, Vice-chairman (1992), and Women’s Team Manager taking Wrexham AC to win 3 Welsh league titles in this period.
As a highly successful throws coach, he coached many athletes from across North Wales. He achieved advanced coaching qualifications in throws and for strength and conditioning and took athletes including Laura Douglas, Kelly Roberts, Liam Walsh, Kevin Rickets, Chris Marsland and Lesley Brannan(now Brown) to international successes. He coached for over 11 years and took Lesley to the 2002 Commonwealth Games. He retired from coaching and general involvement back in 2004/05.
