NORTH WALES REGIONAL ATHLETICS COUNCIL
ROAD RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Qualification – only affiliated athletes eligible:
To be eligible, an athlete must have at least ONE of the following qualifications:
- Birth – the athlete having been born in the Region.
- Residence – the athlete having resided continuously in the Region for a minimum of nine months immediately prior to the event. Residence to include service at a military unit based within the Region. Any athlete claiming eligibility to compete under this qualification must supply documentation details to the Regional Athletics Council in order to be processed before being accepted.
- An Athlete attending at a School, College or University in the Region. Students qualified under this criterion do not acquire a qualification to compete for the Region in UK inter county competitions.
- Retention of Residence – an athlete, who has competed for a Region under the residence qualification, retains their Regional eligibility, regardless of residence, until such time as they compete for another Region or county.
- In addition, the athlete must be registered with Welsh Athletics on the day of the event AND they may not have competed in the championships of, nor represented another Region or County in the competition year.
Entry:
- Entries must be received at least 7 days in advance of the Championship.
- Entries to the Championship to close 7 days before the race, and the list of entries to be forward to WA for verification.
Awards:
- Medals will be awarded in the following categories and distances for both male and female athletes:
- 5km: U/17, U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 6569,70-74, 75-79 , 80-84 and 85+.
- 5 Miles: U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85+.
- 10 km: U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 7074, 75-79, 80-84 and 85+.
- 10 Miles: U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-9, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84 and 85+
- Half marathon: U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69,70-74, 75-79 80-84 and 85+.
- Full marathon: U/20, Senior, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69,70-74, 75-79 80-84 and 85+.
- Additionally, a championship medal will be presented to the first male and female athletes to cross the line. The athletes will also be awarded a medal for position in his/her age-group.
- No medals will be awarded for Club team performances.
Allocation of championships:
- Applications to host a road running championship for the following year must be made in writing to the Secretary, prior to the NWRAC September meeting.
- The allocation of championships to races will be made in the N.W.R.A.C.
meeting held in each September.
- Priority in awarding championship status to events will be given to those Clubs in N.W.R.A.C. that make applications no later than the September meeting.
