ROAD RUNNING

North Wales has a vibrant road running community, with Clubs catering for the discipline right across the Region, from Anglesey to Shotton to Welshpool. Reflecting the upsurge in popularity over the last few years, several new running Clubs have also been formed and affiliated with Welsh Athletics.

We hold annual championships in the following distances:

5km, 10km, 10 miles, half marathon and full marathon; medals are awarded to the first three male and female in each age group. We also hold annual relay championships on the Llandudno promenade for affiliated Clubs, catering for teams of male and female from under 11 years of age to 70+.

Several of our Clubs compete in the Borders Road Running League, a cross-border competition that holds seven races over a season that runs from October to April each year. Distances never exceed 10km per event, which gives an opportunity for young athletes (over 17) to take part. The League also gives both individual and team prizes at the end of each season, based on points awarded at each event. Generally speaking, joining your local Club will automatically entitle you to run in the League with no further cost involved. Competing Clubs in the Region are: Abergele Harriers, Buckley Runners, Cybi Striders, Deeside A.C., Deestriders, Eryri Harriers, Prestatyn Runners, Wrecsam Tri Club and Wrexham A.C. The League caters for both male and female runners.
